Put InkMorning on your e-reader

The KOReader plugin keeps your sleep screen fresh automatically. No KOReader? You can still download any wallpaper at your device’s exact resolution and copy it over by hand.

Recommended

KOReader plugin

For e-readers where KOReader controls the sleep screen: jailbroken Kindles, Kobo and reMarkable. On PocketBook and Android readers (including BOOX), KOReader can’t change the system sleep screen — download a wallpaper and set it in the device’s own settings instead.

  1. 1

    Get the plugin

Download and unzip the inkmorning.koplugin folder. Keep the folder name exactly as it is — KOReader only loads plugin folders ending in .koplugin.

  2. 2

    Copy it to your e-reader

Connect the e-reader over USB and copy the folder into koreader/plugins/. On a Kindle that is usually /koreader/plugins/ at the root of the USB drive; on Kobo it is .adds/koreader/plugins/. On reMarkable it lives wherever your KOReader launcher installed it (commonly /home/root/koreader/plugins/).

  3. 3

    Restart KOReader

Eject the device safely, then fully exit and reopen KOReader so it picks up the new plugin.

  4. 4

    Pair your device

Connect to Wi-Fi and open the Tools menu (the wrench icon) → InkMorning → Pair device. A six-character code appears on screen.

  5. 5

    Enter the code here

Sign in on this website, go to My devices and type the code. Codes expire after 10 minutes. The e-reader confirms within a few seconds.

  6. 6

    Enjoy

Use Set as sleep screen: today’s daily and turn on Auto-update daily. Your purchases are available under Browse my library. InkMorning never turns Wi-Fi on by itself.

Manual install

Without KOReader

Open any wallpaper, choose your device in the picker and press Download. The file is rendered at exactly your screen resolution, in grayscale. Where it goes depends on your device:

Kindle (stock firmware)

Stock Kindle firmware does not support custom screensavers without a jailbreak, and some models show ads or the book cover instead. The simplest route is to install KOReader (where your model supports it) and use the plugin above, or use the Kindle’s own “show book cover” option where available.

If your Kindle is already jailbroken with a screensaver hack, download at your model’s preset and follow that hack’s documentation for where images go (commonly a linkss/screensavers folder, PNG, grayscale).

Kobo

Recent Kobo firmware can show the current book cover when sleeping, but custom sleep images generally need KOReader or a community mod. With KOReader, simply use the plugin.

Otherwise download at your Kobo preset and copy the file to the location your mod expects — check the mod’s instructions, as folder names vary between versions.

reMarkable

reMarkable tablets don’t offer custom sleep screens in their settings. Community tools replace the suspended.png image over SSH; this is unofficial, may be reset by software updates, and is at your own risk.

Download at the reMarkable preset (PNG, grayscale) so the image matches the display exactly.

PocketBook & Android e-readers (BOOX and others)

On PocketBook and Android, KOReader cannot replace the system sleep screen, so the plugin can’t set it for you. Download at your screen size (pick Custom size if your model isn’t listed) and choose the image in the device’s own settings — on BOOX usually Settings → Screensaver, on PocketBook the logo/sleep image option in the screen settings. Menu names vary by firmware.

Other e-readers & KOReader without the plugin

Pick Custom size in the device picker and enter your screen resolution. In KOReader you can point Settings → Screen → Sleep screen → Wallpaper → Choose image (menu names vary slightly by version) to any downloaded file.
